Here at Tap East we’re always keen to brew with our heroes (who isn’t?!) so when Mitch Steele, former brewmaster at Stone Brewing in San Diego, now at New Realm brewing in Atlanta, contacted a friend of ours to get together for beers, the mutual friend suggested a collaboration with our head brewer, Jonny Park.
Wheels rolled into motion, emails flew back and forth across the ocean and Steeleworks, a Hoppy Porter was born. It’s going to be a lower ABV Porter than we’re used to brewing here in Stratford, probably around 4% but we’re certain you’re going to like it!
A mixture of Pale, Munich, Amber, Crystal, Oats, Chocolate and Carafa 3 Malts were used the brewing of this exciting beer and we also two of our favourite hops Centennial and Citra were used.
The name for the beer gets it’s inspiration from the man himself and from West Ham United’s original name when the club was formed in 1895, Thames Ironworks FC; at that time the whole area was responsible for steel/iron working and ship building.
Steeleworks Hoppy Porter will be released a week on Friday 5th May and we’ll have it on the bar here at Tap East but you’ll also find it at The Rake along with Jonny, Mitch and some of the Utobeer team from around 5pm.
